All-plastic castable abutments for laboratories waxing and casting custom abutments and frameworks by hand. Also called UCLA plastic sleeves, waxing sleeves or burnout sleeves. Molded entirely from burnout plastic with no metal base, these are sacrificial patterns — the technician waxes the coronal anatomy on the sleeve, invests, burns out and casts. The finished restoration is the cast metal; the sleeve does not remain in service.

Hex and non-hex. Hexed castable abutments index to the implant connection, so the anti-rotational geometry transfers to the casting — use these for single-unit custom abutments. Non-hexed sleeves are rotational, which is what allows two or more units to seat on a common path of insertion: screw-retained bridges, full-arch frameworks and bar substructures.

Burnout. Formulated to burn out under a standard investment casting cycle. Follow your investment manufacturer's recommended burnout schedule — complete elimination of the pattern depends on reaching and holding the specified temperature.

Plain sleeve or pre-formed collar. Castable abutments in this category have no collar height. Where measured soft-tissue depth calls for a pre-formed collar, the Plastic Straight Locking Implant Abutment family carries collar heights 1, 2, 3 and 4mm in a 6.0mm emergence profile, which cuts both wax-up time and the alloy consumed in the overcast.

Selecting a pattern type. Produced to the referenced system's original prosthetic specifications. Seat the sleeve on the analog and verify before wax-up. A molded plastic connection carries greater tolerance than a machined metal one, so where minimal rotational play at the interface is the priority, a titanium base or gold cylinder is the better choice for the case.
