Post abutment for bite registration is used to accurate transfer the patient's bite to the working dental lab model.

A post abutment for bite-registration (also called a bite registration post, bite verification cylinder, or similar) is a specialized temporary component used in dental implant procedures. It screws directly into the implant fixture (the titanium root in the jawbone) to help capture an accurate record of the patient's bite (occlusion) — the way the upper and lower teeth or jaws come together.

Unlike a standard healing abutment (which mainly shapes the gum tissue) or a final prosthetic abutment (which supports the crown/bridge), a bite registration post is designed specifically for recording jaw relationships. It typically features:

  • A threaded stem or connection that fits the implant platform securely.
  • A shank or body of appropriate height (often around 8 mm prosthetic height, sometimes adjustable or low-profile for limited occlusal space).

Accurate bite registration ensures the final crown, bridge, or denture fits comfortably, distributes chewing forces properly, and avoids issues like premature contacts, jaw strain, or uneven wear. Without it (or with a poor record), the lab may produce a restoration that requires extensive chairside adjustments or fails prematurely. Posts provide a rigid, implant-supported base that prevents the registration material from distorting or the patient from closing too high/low.
