A step-by-step guide to selecting the correct Titan compatible abutment for T3 Certain, Osseotite Certain, Full Osseotite Certain, and Nanotite Certain implants. All share the same internal hex prosthetic connection — the color-coded platform is the only variable that determines which components you need. This is a different connection from the 3i external hex; components are not interchangeable.
“Certain” or not? The Certain connection is the 3i internal hex with the 4-point anti-rotational design. If your implant is a classic 3i external hex, use the external hex guide instead.
Watch the terminology trap: “Osseotite” refers to the implant’s surface, found on BOTH the 3i external hex and the 3i Certain internal connection. A “3i Osseotite” implant is external hex; an “Osseotite Certain” is internal. Confirm your connection before ordering — this is the most common 3i ordering error.
The 3i Certain system uses four color-coded platforms. The platform color is documented in the surgical record or on the implant packaging.
| Platform Color | Seating Surface | Implant Body Ø | Implant Lines |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purple | 3.4mm | 3.25mm | T3 Certain, Osseotite Certain, Full Osseotite Certain, Nanotite Certain |
| Blue | 4.1mm | 4.0mm, 4.0/3.0mm (platform-switched) | T3 Certain, Osseotite Certain, Full Osseotite Certain, Nanotite Certain |
| Yellow | 5.0mm | 5.0mm, 5.0/4.0mm (platform-switched) | T3 Certain, Osseotite Certain, Full Osseotite Certain, Nanotite Certain |
| Green | 6.0mm | 6.0mm, 6.0/5.0mm (platform-switched) | T3 Certain, Osseotite Certain |
Platform-switched Certain implants (4/3, 5/4, 6/5): The second number is the seating surface. A “5/4” Certain implant uses Yellow (5.0mm) packaging but seats on the Blue (4.1mm) platform — use 4.1mm components. Always confirm the seating surface from the surgical record, not the implant body diameter alone.
The 3.25 and 3.4 designations refer to the same purple platform and are used interchangeably — components fit both.
Titan manufactures multiple abutment types for the 3i Certain internal hex:

Titan offers more collar height and profile diameter options for the Certain system than the OEM catalog, including options for the purple (3.4mm) and green (6.0mm) platforms where OEM selection is limited.
Before torquing the abutment screw, verify that the component is fully seated into the implant well. The internal hex should be fully engaged with no gap between the abutment base and the implant platform. Use Titan’s Implant Locator Pin to guide the abutment into the implant for parallel, accurate placement — especially useful in posterior sites with limited visibility.
Are 3.25 and 3.4 Certain platforms the same?
Yes — the 3.25 and 3.4 designations refer to the same purple platform, and components are interchangeable between them.
Do Certain components fit T3 implants?
Yes — T3 Certain uses the same Certain internal connection as Osseotite Certain, Full Osseotite Certain, and Nanotite Certain.
Are Certain and 3i external hex abutments interchangeable?
No. The Certain internal hex and the 3i external hex are completely different connections. Components cannot be swapped between them.
| Decision | Determined By | Key Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Color code from surgical record | Purple 3.4mm, Blue 4.1mm, Yellow 5.0mm, Green 6.0mm. Platform-switched: use the second number. |
| Abutment Type | Restoration design | Straight locking for cement-retained. Modifiable for custom prep. Castable hex for engaging, non-hex for splinted. |
| Profile & Collar | Tooth being replaced & tissue depth | Profile = cervical diameter. Collar = tissue depth, shoulder at gingival margin. |
| Seating Check | Visual and tactile confirmation | Verify full hex engagement and no gap at the platform before torquing. Use the Locator Pin for guided placement. |
