Bicon’s locking-taper connection has no abutment screw and allows 360° rotational positioning. Five choices define the abutment: post diameter, abutment type, collar height, emergence profile and prep height.
Looking for a Bicon-compatible abutment?
Titan makes shouldered and non-shouldered abutments in both post sizes: 2.0mm post for 3.5mm and 4.0mm implants, 3.0mm post for 4.5mm, 5.0mm and 6.0mm implants. USA-made from Grade 23 surgical titanium.
Post diameter is fixed by the implant well at placement. There is nothing to choose, only a match to confirm.
2.0mm post: 3.5 and 4.0mm implants. 3.0mm post: 4.5, 5.0 and 6.0mm implants, including SHORT®.
| Shouldered | Non-shouldered | Octagonal base (BC-3A-PA) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Finish line | Preset shoulder the lab can see | Prepped where you want it, like a natural tooth | Preset shoulder |
| Retention | Cement | Cement, or the abutment serves as a post-and-core | Screw, through the threaded chimney |
| Rotation control | Cement bond | Cement bond | Octagon indexes the framework |
| Best for | Most cemented single crowns | Low occlusal clearance; full margin control | Retrievable restorations; avoiding subgingival cement |
| Prep height | 4.0, 5.5 or 7.0mm | Set by your prep | 4.0, 5.5 or 7.0mm |
| Post sizes | 2.0 and 3.0mm | 2.0 and 3.0mm | 3.0mm only |
Ready to order? Choose your abutment by post size. Non-shouldered: 2.0mm post (BC-2372NSPA) for 3.5mm and 4.0mm implants, or 3.0mm post (BC-3572NSPA) for 4.5mm, 5.0mm and 6.0mm implants. Shouldered: 2.0mm post (BC-2PA) or 3.0mm post (BC-3PA). Screw-retaining on a 3.0mm well: octagonal base (BC-3A-PA).
Ordering from a Bicon Stealth part number? Titan’s shouldered abutments are the alternative. Collar heights are measured differently, so email the Bicon part number to support@titanimplants.com or call 1-201-439-0470 and we’ll match the size for you.
Probe from the implant platform to the gingival crest with a periodontal probe or the Bicon shoulder depth gauge. Choose the collar that puts the shoulder, or the start of the prep on a non-shouldered abutment, at or just below the margin. Shouldered and non-shouldered styles come in multiple collar heights for each post diameter.
The widest point of the abutment at the gingival margin. Approximate the cervical diameter of the tooth being replaced, supporting the papillae without crowding them.
Tip: tissue not yet established (immediate placement or early loading)? Start with a narrower temporary abutment and move to the final profile after the tissue matures.
Prep height is the abutment the crown seats on, above the shoulder. It is not the collar height. Measure in occlusion from the gingival crest to the opposing tooth, then subtract about 3mm: roughly 1.5mm for restorative material and 1.5mm of clearance.
Too tall and the crown can’t seat or the ceramic is too thin. Too short and there isn’t enough axial wall to retain a cemented crown. Full method in our abutment sizing guide.
| Decision | Set by | Options |
|---|---|---|
| Post diameter | Implant well (fixed) | 2.0mm for 3.5/4.0mm implants (anterior only); 3.0mm for 4.5/5.0/6.0mm implants |
| Abutment type | Margin and retention | Shouldered (preset margin), non-shouldered (prepped margin), octagonal base (screw-retained, 3.0mm only) |
| Collar height | Tissue depth | Shoulder at or just below the gingival margin |
| Emergence profile | Tooth and site | Narrower anterior, wider posterior |
| Prep height | Space in occlusion | Crest to opposing − 3mm. Shouldered: 4.0, 5.5 or 7.0mm. |
