Choosing Proper Abutment Diameters

Available for External Hex 4.1 mm and 5.0 mm platform diameters.

1. Measure the mesio-distal space between the proximal surfaces of the adjacent teeth.
2. Subtract 2 mm (minimum 1 mm clearance per side between abutment flare and root surface) to determine the maximum abutment diameter.
3. If extra space is available, select a wider Emergence Profile (Level 1 standard, Level 2, or Level 3 — see chart).

Choosing Proper Abutment Preparation Height & Collar Height

1. Measure vertical space from gingival crest to opposing tooth. Subtract 3 mm for ideal preparation height.
2. Measure implant platform to gingival crest on buccal and lingual sides. Use the higher value (buccal is typically higher).
3. Subtract 0.5–1 mm to seat the collar slightly subgingival. Choose the closest collar height from the chart.
4. Modify the collar if needed to follow natural gingival contours between buccal and lingual.
